Veronica Mars movie!!!
Mar. 11th, 2014 04:53 pmI saw the Veronica Mars movie last night at its NYC premiere!! I met no one, saw the boys from afar (KB did the red carpet and then skedaddled to do more press (one of the late talk show Jimmy's, I think)), and while I took some pics, they are blurry, boo. They had a little tented red carpet in front of the theater, and a little area to wait by the red carpet for the arrivals. We opted not to wait there. My plus one wasn't feeling it, and I think I would have been too shy anyway (well, compared to the other fangirls) to get a moment with anyone, and I knew professional photographers would document the arrivals just fine.
We checked in, got our tickets, and then waited in line for a few minutes until they were ready to let us into the theater. The invite had said "business professional and up." I was in the fanciest dress I own, and overall, most people seemed to be dressed like me -- a bit like fangirl prom in vibe. A few tuxes, but mostly suits/ties on dudes, and nice dresses on the ladies. There were a few schlubs in jeans, but for once, I was not among them. When we went into the theater, there were free bags of popcorn and 20 oz bottle drinks. Thanks, Loews/Slave Rats/whoever! The theater was playing a mix of songs random enough that I was like, these have to be in the movie. And sure enough, they were!
We had assigned seating, and I was in the first row of the Mezzanine. No idea how they came up with who was assigned where (order of Kickstarter donation? order of RSVPing with details to the premiere?), but it meant that I had great seats to watch the movie, but was far away from where the cast stood when they introduced it (1.5 stories up and half a theater back). Others were close to the cast, but would have had a neck crick from sitting 3 feet from the screen, so not sure which is preferable. ( blurry pic below )
Sad that Francis Capra didn't come out well -- his face is blocked by his own camera, alas -- because his appearance was the biggest surprise. So much hair!
Only Rob Thomas spoke, aside from the occasional interjection. He said what he's said before at other forums: thanking Warner Brothers for saying yes to the whole endeavor, and thanking us, the fans, for making it possible. And then it was time for the movie (if the cast stayed, I could not see). Non-spoilery reaction: I basically loved it. ( spoilery reaction ) Judging purely by claps, squees, and laughs, I'd say the audience was pretty satisfied, too. I'm seeing it again on Thursday as a fan event. Hopefully I get to hear some of the dialogue I missed because people were laughing or clapping over it. And then possibly to see it again over the weekend, because dammit, I am determined that this is a success.
eta -- oh! here in a group selfie by Kristen, you can see Francis Capra's hair!
