recommendations, please!

imwaldeCan I get a little advice please? My DVD player seems to be kaputt. It's a VCR/DVD player combo that was pretty cheap so I'm not surprised. And considering players retail for $40 at Target, I assume it's not going to be worth fixing.
So I'm going to need a new one obviously. And if I get a new one, I think I want a multi-region player so I can watch French and German DVDs, too. However in my admittedly cursory searching online, all the places with region-free DVD players look soooooooo totally sketchy and fly-by-night. Also, I don't really know which one is good to buy.
Recommendations, anyone? Either of a specific player or a legitimate place to buy one?
Also, I am typing this on my shiny, new MacBook whoooo! I got a 13' black one, and I think I'm going to name him Helmut. Or possibly Günther.

The snow here sucks ass. The world and most of all parking lots remain goddamn ice rinks. Not that I'm bitter. The impenetrable ice rocks are impervious to harm by any of my futile possessions so yesterday having gotten stuck over a mound of ice snow in my parking lot (thanks snow ploughs, way to create drastic topography DIRECTLY BEHIND THE CARS) with my wheels spinning uselessly, my only and last resort was to BOIL WATER and trek up and down from my apartment one boiling pot at a time until I melted some of the mound and some neighbors could push me free. The only good things are my new coat and boots. The boots are bright blue and super cute. The coat is a black poofy monster of a down coat which is not unlike wearing a sleeping bag and is audible and frightens the cats, but it wins at winter. I'm so over this storm. Is it spring yet?
