Tonight was the last night a visitor to my office was here in town before heading back to the US. And upon interrogation, he admitted he had not sampled most of the desserts Vienna is famous for while here. So tonight I took it upon myself to rectify that.

Tonight for dinner we got Apfelstrudel mit Vanillesauce (aka apple strudel with vanilla sauce), Topfenknödel (a dumpling filled with something from the dairy family akin to the cream cheese used in cheesecake that's then served in a berry sauce usually), and Kaiserschmarrn (aka thick pancakes/crepes cut into strips and topped with applesauce, plums, and powdered sugar). To drink was Schokocinos, which were half cappucino, half chocolate, topped with whipped cream and caramel sauce. I sadly did not have the wherewithall to remember to bring a camera to dinner, so I hope the google images searches give you the idea.

This week when we went out for Martinigansl, aka roast goose, I had already made him get a Mohr in Hemd (aka an O shaped piece of chocolate cake with chocolate sauce filling up the middle, it looks like a chocolate volcano, sorta -- the name literally means Moor in a shirt).

There are days when I'm all, grrrr, sucks to be in Austria. Today is not one of those days.
