SANRIO DOC MARTENS. These will be mine!

Tuesday night I went to Barnes and Noble after work to buy Mockingjay and then stayed up to an irresponsibly late hour reading it, but had to go to bed at about the halfway point. Stayed up irresponsibly late finishing it on Wednesday night. I am not sure I enjoyed it, precisely? But damn is it compelling. HOLY CRAP, THE BODY COUNT. I mean, I knew it was going to be dark, and duh, that people were going to die, but DUUUUUDE. So bleak! So much despair, even in the what-passes-for-a-happy-ending! I should know better than to get too attached to anyone. The Peeta/Gale thing was handled better than I feared, with it coming to what felt like a natural conclusion, but I wasn't precisely happy about it. The ending of the revolution was a little confusing to read at first. I was reading really fast because I wanted to know what happened, and then after that bomb, I was as disoriented as Katniss and had to go back and reread to make sure I hadn't missed something vital. So much of the action was off screen. And so many deaths were off screen, like all the people the mutts ate in the tunnels and Cinna, and almost Prim's. When I think about all the deaths that were "on screen" though, I guess I should be careful what I wish for. Yeesh. Yet again I ask, HOW IS THIS YA???

I cannot believe it is nearly September! Where did the summer go? Where did 2010 go? Then again, where did my 20s go? Sigh. However, no birthday is all bad, because there is cake and people give you presents. My sister's choice of present for me this year knocked it out of the park. Eeeeeeeeeeeeee! So cute and sparkly, a combination nigh guaranteed to win my heart.

In what will probably not be noteworthy to anyone but me, I am inordinately proud of myself that I saw approximately 2 minutes of a movie called Sex Drive while channel surfing before recognizing the main actor as the kid from a pair of NYPD Blue episodes in which he is an abuse victim at the hands of his mentally ill mother. This was in the Mark-Paul Gosselar years and the kid is dropped off at juvenile services, and then MPG is all, the others are going to eat him alive, and Sipowicz is all, we did what we were supposed to, and then MPG goes back for him and signs the kid out and then finds him a nice foster family. He was HEARTBREAKING and so so so good on that show, I am delighted to know he is still acting. And that I will have the pleasure of seeing him in later episodes of Kyle XY, whose first season was adorable and awesome!

Is that supposed to be a large number of times to have seen an episode? I saw Once More With Feeling at least 5 times the week it aired. I've seen every episode of Robin of Sherwood, and most of Veronica Mars season 1 at least that many times. What with DVDs and DVRs and VCRs before that, if I love an episode, I am likely to have seen it at least that many times, or at least my favorite scenes from it.

Also, I have seen that Law & Order episode about genital mutilation that many times, too, but not on purpose, just through the whims of cable syndication scheduling and when I was staying in a hotel or whatever with limited options.

I remember that episode of NYPD Blue so well that I probably could have identified that kid, too! Ah, the halcyon days of 2002/2003, where we watched all the NYPD Blue there was to watch.

Alright, where is the equivalent "Neville got hot!" icon for this kid?

IKR? I watched the whole of Sex Drive at a later airing on cable and found myself charmed rather than irritated/offended, such is the power of Josh Zuckerman's adorableness!

His NYPD Blue character's name was Swirly, and I would use a Swirly Got Hot icon, even though you and I would be the only people who would get it. I just looked; only seasons 1-4 are on DVD. No Swirly (or Rick Schroeder years) to be bought, boooo.
