RIP, Knut *sniff*

imwaldeNooooooooooooo! KNUT DIED, WHAT?
He died in his compound in front of zoo visitors! This makes me so sad. I know there are bigger tragedies in the world today, but he was only 4!

poisonprong and I made a special trip to the zoo to see him, and I am so glad we did. He was frickin adorable. He wasn't in with the other polar bears. He was in his own enclosure where he could be much closer to his adoring public. My pictures didn't turn out all that well because of the angle of the sun at that moment, but he was totally hamming it up for the crowd. He'd take his ball in his teeth, toss it out of the enclosure to his audience, and when someone would throw it back in to the moat, he'd make a huge splash jumping in after it. SO CUTE. We'll miss you, little bear!
And while on the subject of animal stories that make me cry, this video of a dog amidst the rubble in Japan who won't abandon his hurt dog friend just gets to me.
