Turiiiiiiinoooooooo!
Hooray the Olympics have started! I've watched everything NBC has aired so far, but this is easy to do on a weekend. (The snowstorm doesn't hurt either, as I have no desire to leave my pjs or couch, much less my apartment.) I love everything about the Olympics -- the spectacle and pageantry, the hilariously overblown metaphors in the network voice overs, the human interest stories, the underdogs, adorable athletes from all over the world, everything. In my current mood I even love curling. I'm not sure what it is, but love!
Something I love even more than the Olympics is watching the Olympics after I've Ti-Fauxed them. I can skip the commercials and NBC's never-ending DUN DUN DUNs and the prelims and just watch the good stuff. Which is everything else.
Here are my favorite things so far, that I remember:
Bob Costas commenting hilariously on the fact that Italy chose for no apparent reason to set the Parade of Countries, usually set to classic music, during the opening ceremonies to a random assortment of disco hits. (Seriously, y'all, Disco Inferno. Hot Stuff.) AWESOME.
The US pairs team Inoue and Baldwin landed the first throw triple axel ever in the Olympics! Yaaaay!
The fireworks and the acrobatics of the opening ceremonies. And the adorable little Italian girl who sang. And the dancing cows. Cows! Dancing!
Downhill skiing -- zooooooooooooooooooooooom!
Chinese pair skaters Zhang and Zhang skating to Led Zepplin. Heeeee.
Chad Hedrick winning gold. Dude decided to take up speed skating 4 YEARS AGO while watching the Salt Lake City games. That is excellent. And his nickname is "The Exception." Ha! AWESOME.
German pair skater Robin Szolkowy having what looks like the shape surrounding Superman's "S" on his chest. In sequins.
Prospective Olympian boyfriends spotted so far -- Eskil Ervik (speedskater from Norway), Sven Kramer (Dutch speedskater), Michael Greiss (Germany, biathlon), Simon Ammann (Swiss ski jumper, loved him since Salt Lake). Aww hell, I love all the ski jumpers. Clint Jones (US), Janne Ahonen (Finland), Andreas Kuettel (Switzerland), whoever. And those who are adorable but too young (when the HELL did that start happening?!) - Stefan Read (Canada), Sebastian Colloredo (Italy), Thomas Morgenstern (Austria). Whoooooooooosh, love ski jumping! Also? Total girlcrush on Kari Traa (Norwegian freestyle skiier). So pretty!

Oscar Wilde: The Portrait of Dorian Gray. You are a horror novel from the world of dandies, rich pretty boys, art and aesthetics, and intellectual debates between ethical people
and decadent pleasure-seekers. You value beauty and pleasure but realize their dangers, as well.
Which literature classic are you?

Huh. Is that an insult? I can't tell. It's on my (long) list of books I need to read.

Kari Traa is a little scary-looking, I think. I mean, yeah, pretty. Ice queen!
Oh yeah and Chad Hedrick was super-awesome. I was like GO TEXAS!!!

How much more adorable could Chad Hedrick have gotten when tearing up when talking about his dead grandma, who he called his "best friend"?!? Fluffy baby bunnies level of cute, I'm talking. Rivaled only by Simon Ammann's impossible-to-resist flawed English. He was "angry on himself" about a bad jump. Heeeeeeeee.
