The VA Senate race is too close to call as I type this. Like, 3,000 votes apart. I don't know what effect my vote had there yet, but apparently, the motherfucking same-sex marriage/civil unions ban passed.

The idea of voting on same sex marriage is so ridiculous to me. It's like why don't we have a vote on whether someone else can paint their bathroom green or tie their shoes. The world is a stupid, stupid place sometimes.

This one was REALLY aggregious because the language is so vague in banning "contracts that bestow marriage-like rights" or whatever that plenty of contracts could be illegal now. Like if I give my best friend my power of attorney or something. Is that a right that normally is only bestowed in family or marriage? If someone else didn't want my best friend to have my power of attorney, some lawyers fear that under the new law, it could be nullified in court.
