Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams broke up months ago? Where the fuck have I been? Oh yes, Austria, where they report about the lives of celebrities I've never heard of. Too bad, though, they seemed really happy and cute together.

From a GQ interview end of last year I think:

“I mean, God bless The Notebook,” Gosling says. “It introduced me to one of the great loves of my life. But people do Rachel and me a disservice by assuming we were anything like the people in that movie. Rachel and my love story is a hell of a lot more romantic than that.”

They broke up, is the thing. It’s been a few months. Gosling says it wasn’t the attention that did it, but other than that he doesn’t really know what to say. “The only thing I remember is we both went down swingin’ and we called it a draw,” he says.

The Notebook people have taken it harder. “Women are mad at me,” Gosling says with a rueful smile. “A girl came up to me on the street and she almost smacked me. Like, ‘How could you? How could you let a girl like that go?’ I feel like I want to give people hugs, they seem so sad. Rachel and I should be the ones getting hugs! Instead, we’re consoling everybody else.”

I watched Once yesterday, and omg, it was so so so so so good. Like, the whole movie feels like a hug. I was so excited while watching it, because it felt so real and I got nervous halfway through that maybe the filmmakers didn't know what a good thing they had going, but they did, and it was awesome through the end. I have now promptly ordered the DVD and the soundtrack, and I think I'll keeping singing the songs in my head until Amazon delivers. So good! Go rent it!

[livejournal.com profile] jheaton, I think you wondered if "Falling Slowly" was indeed eligible for the Best Song Oscar? You're not the only one wondering. Although, from what I read, it was written for the movie at the request of the director, but then the movie was shelved or delayed at some point, so Glen Hansard put it on his album, like why let a great song go to waste, but then hooray the movie got made and it was included as was always intended. And it sounds like the rules are about the intentions, so here's hoping. I mean, I liked Enchanted and all, but if any of those songs beat out Once, I'll have a small hissy fit.

Thoughtcrimes was on tv the other day, you know the one with Theresa from the OC playing a mindreader who is recruited by the government to fight crime? and I remember watching it on Sci-Fi when it aired, but that was long before I knew who Joe Flanigan was, so it was funny seeing it a second time around. Hi, Shepherd, how's it going? Heee.

Oh! And anyone who has seen Atonement should read this awesome EW interview with Keira Knightley and James McAvoy. They are adorable. (It doesn't spoil everything, but it does give away from juicy bits, so spoiler-phobes beware...) Here's a funny bit:

Q: So now that you've essentially completed your international press tour for this film, what would you say is the one question you've each gotten the most?

MCAVOY: [Affecting an American accent] ''Could you, uh, just talk about the five-minute tracking shot? Was that all one shot?''

KNIGHTLEY: I've had ''Why are you only good in Joe Wright films?''

Ha!
