I'd like to say that I do not blame her one bit for that scene I always wish weren't in the film.
In related news, I watched Anything Goes (whose only redeeming number was a Donald O'Connor one, go figure), and it also had an extensive, terribly out of place ballet number. Must have been a fad.
Broadway Melody does last a loooooooooooong time. But I like this dance number way better than the ballet. She looks so different in the scene with the scarf thing in the wind, I didn't know it was the same dancer, but that's what her obits say...
