it's beginning to look a lot like xmas in my apt!

I mailed all y'all's cards today if you requested one, so I hope they get there on time! I had them all written last week, I just could not make it to the post office before it closed. Ah, Austria, ever with the convenient hours for people who work for a living. Apparently they don't do stamps? Not as such? They just weigh them and then print out a sticker. I was hoping for pretty winter/holiday stamps for you to see, but no such luck. I secretly believe they might exist (at least for internal EU mail) but the guy at the post office was not interested in having me hold up the line. Which, fair enough, I'd probably do the same thing in his shoes.

I also have put up my tree and decorated! Whoo! Trees finally FINALLY went on sale Friday, so I bought mine Saturday. So far no ornament carnage, but the cats will find a way, of this I am sure. Pictures once I clean up a bit more, I have not put away all the boxes yet. The floor by the tree is sort of a fort/cat playground of boxes which the cats have enjoyed chasing each other around/ever/under/through and playing hide and go seek/bite/bunny kick to the FACE.

Oh, and Pilot is super determined to eat the styrofoam packing peanuts? WTF. I put them away but he's been stalking the box they are in ever since, and trying to force his way in. He got one out, and I literally had to chase him around the apartment (his ears were turned back) to tackle him and yoink it from his mouth. [livejournal.com profile] katietunning or [livejournal.com profile] biggieshorty or anyone else with cats -- ever heard of this? Or do I just have a special cat?

(Tiff, the polka band was playing Cabaret!)

These chandeliers have to be at least the size of a small car.

I love the chandeliers! We have stuff up in our neighborhood, but it's not as nice as those.

Yeah, Vienna really goes all out. These are only the streets I've taken pictures of, but most big streets have something.

Oh god, it's so pretty! I love recognizing the streets, too. Goddammit, I want to go back to Vienna! Also, way to find a polka band :)

It is abundantly clear that you have a Very Special Cat. I'm sure Squid would eat packing peanuts, too, come to think of it.

Come back anytime! The chandeliers are over Graben, that you probably recognized.

Chandeliers Over Graben is going to have to be my polka band's name. Thanks!

The post office seems to think you have sent me something in the mail! Good timing, as I leave for Florida soon! Woooo! Once I'm in Florida and free during my day, I'll give you a call.

Hee, it says it is from me? I saw something for you in London, which my mom brought back in her suitcase to the US and mailed from there. I know you don't need clutter, and yet, you needed this. You'll have to tell me what you think of it.

Are you sure the packing peanuts are styrofoam and not cornstarch (do they dissolve in water)? If the latter, they might be tasty... if not, maybe he likes the crunch texture?

[identity profile] imwalde.livejournal.com 2008-12-16 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! You know, I think you are probably right. That would make me feel better about the halves of peanuts he's eaten before I managed to get them out of his mouth. Haven't tried putting them in water, but it is a worthy experiment!

Ok, you are totally right, must be cornstarch, it dissolved in water. Phew.

I had seen cheesepuff looking packing peanuts before that were quite noticeably not styrofoam, but these were that S shape, so not as noticeable.
