I finished Avatar about a week and a half after starting it. SO AWESOME. ILU THE MOST, SOKKA!

Too bad I am too much of a coward to ask the question(s) I would really want to: was playing Methos as flirtatious with Duncan your interpretation or was it in some way acknowledged by the show, and did Methos and Duncan ever sleep together? I see though that in the comments someone did ask WHERE DOES ONE HIDE A SWORD WHEN WEARING A SWEATER AND JEANS, heh, which is indeed one of the more abiding mysteries of the show.

This weekend I saw The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Toy Story 3. The Sorcerer's Apprentice was not nearly as bad as I feared. It was actually pretty enjoyable. It wasn't my idea to see it, but a guy friend I had taken to Eclipse wanted to see it, so I figured I owed him. It was nowhere near bad enough to have earned the bomb mantle. Nicolas Cage was ridiculous but the scenery chewing worked with the character, and Jay Baruchel was pretty charming. And the love interest got an awesome act of heroics, and the magic was not that well explained, but sort of cool. Plus, fun with Tesla coils! I could have lived without seeing it in the theater, but I am not sorry I did. My friend liked it, too, although he was sitting next to someone unfortunate. You'd think it was her first movie or something. Everything made her gasp or laugh or shriek or say oh no! EVER.Y.THING. Even things when the stakes were frankly not just that high.

Toy Story 3, I had wanted to see, but I had not planned to see it today. We wanted to see Inception, but the lines at the theater and automatic kiosks were INSANE, like, 20 people deep. I got to the theater 20 minutes early, but was in line over 10 minutes watching person after person failing to properly use the machines because they kept swiping their cards with the magnetic strip on the wrong side. And then when it was finally my turn Inception was sold out and not playing again for 3 hrs.

So Toy Story it was, and holy shit, that STRESSED MY SHIT OUT. I am nearly 30 and if I thought that was pretty damn intense, I don't know how kids must have reacted. This movie made me cry! WHEN THEY HELD HANDS IN THE INCINERATOR? When Andy gave them up?!? Jesus. Can I bill the storage locker I am going to have to rent to store my stuff to Pixar, seeing as how I can never get rid of any of it?

I certainly could talk X-Files, but I'm going to go with Smallville. X-Files was at least awesome for years before it sucked, but Smallville from the beginning had only individual moments or episodes of awesomeness surrounded by lowest common denominator mediocrity to suckitude. The moments of awesomeness only served to demonstrate what the show could be if it tried, but most of the time didn't bother to, in favor of lazy writing and uninspired meteor freaks of the week.

Omg, I've been putting off Toy Story 3 because I heard that it was emotionally harrowing, but that sounds intense. :'(

Also, interesting re The Sorceror's Apprentice. I was kind of annoyed at it for so blatantly ripping off the look of Harry Potter, but I might give it a go all the same.

I was just not quite prepared for the emotional roller coaster of Toy Story 3. It made my friend Joe cry too. I already anthropomorphize everything, like I feel awful for Christmas trees who get cut down and taken to the lot and then not picked. They have been growing their whole lives for this moment! They just want to be part of someone's holiday and help bring cheer and mirth and beauty! But then they have to see family after family overlook them to pick a different tree. Gah, seriously, it makes me feel wretched. So a whole movie about toy abandonment issues and how they feel now that their kid is grown up and doesn't play with them anymore is tailored made to push my buttons.

I don't necessarily want to oversell The Sorcerer's Apprentice, because I went in expecting dreck, and so was pleasantly surprised. I think low expectations are key. Monica Belluci doesn't get much to do, but the love interest's role, while still secondary, was pretty good for this kind of movie.

eta, forgot: it didn't really strike me as being a Harry Potter rip off, perhaps mostly because it is in New York City and not a magical context. They don't have wands, and there is a lot of shooting fireballs/electricity balls from their hands, so that helps too. I can't quite call it original, just that the magic didn't seem like a HP knock-off. The two camps are the Merlinians and the Morganians, but BBC's Merlin aside, I am fuzzy on my Arthurian stories, so I can't tell how much is from the legends and how much is new. Not knowing better, I'd guess a lot was not from legends.
