For the grove!

So yesterday--a beautiful, sunny, gorgeous day--I went to the Rennfest, aka the Maryland Renaissance Festival for those not from around here. It's one of my favorite places on earth. Jousting! Steak on a Stake! Shops filled with pretty things! Sunlight streaming down through the leaves of mature trees!







I've been every year since I was a teenager, Austria years aside. Yesterday I was wearing a Browncoat tshirt that says I Aim To Misbehave on the back, and I got many, many compliments and/or nods of recognition, heh. Growing up, I would just stare at all the stuff I wanted, but now I operate under the far more satisfying Want/Buy/Have model. There is still some stuff I covet that is out of my price range, but I came home with many shiny things, hooray!



This little guy might be my favorite. (Click on him, it's worth seeing the closeup, I love his little faaaaace!) I've put him on the shelf in front of the Temeraire books.

Other favorite places on earth off the top of my head? Bed, Tivoli Gardens, my reading chair on a rainy day, and the audience of a theater before the show starts (after it starts, well, that depends on the play/musical!).

I don't think I have one? The shows I don't feel good about watching are usually once good, now not good shows I just can't stop watching, but it's not like later seasons of X-Files were a guilty pleasure. That would imply they were pleasurable. There are some shows that I love from the early 90s, which were total non guilty pleasures at the time, but certain things about them now just make them cheesefests because they haven't aged that well. I'm looking at you, Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, 90% of whose plots would be rendered moot today because Lois (and Clark) would carry cell phones. And Highlander, too: I will always feel a stupid amount of affection for that show, but wow, did some fashions and special effects not age well. I used to think the quickenings were awesome, and now I am like, they are awesome CHEESE. And both Merlin and Doctor Who sometimes embarrass me, like, maybe this is American snobbery in regards to special effects and tv budgets, but I'll watch and be all, omg, the UK is PROUD of this, this is the best they can offer, and honestly, it'll be about on par with Scrubbing Bubbles commercials.

Yay! What are your others? Probably something to do with theme parks filled with roller coasters, and there our ways must part, curse my inner ear!
