I KNEW IT. I KNEW Damon didn't see the ring. Wow. I shouldn't doubt this show for a) going there and b) not keeping a secret forever, but wow. How can Damon not know that he's lost Elena's friendship, honestly. At the end there when he said friends don't manipulate, I thought she'd say, that's the point, we're not friends. They do have such great chemistry. Also, Damon? Pumping you for info and making you come on a roadtrip does not trump your move with Jer, mkay, so dial back the bitchy!
CAROLINE BIT MATT! OMFG. It makes perfect sense, it was the right thing, but awww, so sad when got him to breakup with her so he'd be safe. I knew Bonnie was going to make a daywalking ring. She is still so adorable and her delivery on "you want me to eat bunnies!" is great. Also, "I'm basically an insecure, neurotic control freak on crack." Heheheh.
I do not get Tyler. He saw stuff last episode, he knows something is up, he follows his uncle and finds a basement full of chains, and he brings his date there?! HOW DUMB ARE YOU? I would like to know how it all works, though. Why doesn't Tyler change at the full moon like Mason? If it's a maturity thing, why didn't the dad? The werewolf bite being fatal to vampires is an interesting twist.
And yay for Alaric and Aunt Jenna at last!
Nikita was pretty good, but again, no deep thoughts. Nice to see you, Parker!

This is hard! I of course love Pride and Prejudice, which I first saw sophomore year in AP European History after we took the exam, and then I borrowed the tapes from my teacher and watched it many, many more times. And I love North and South, hot damn Mr Thornton, look back at meeeee! And I love Middlemarch, with the oh so passionate Will Ladislaw, "as if I were not in danger of forgetting everything else." And I love the Buccaneers, with an oh so beautiful Greg Wise.

We'll call this exhibit A.
But while those are all totally awesome miniseries, they are all based on classic books (at least 3 out of 4 whose awesomeness I can vouch for; I've never read The Buccaneers), and thus some of their awesomeness is due to the source material. So I think I have to say State of Play. It is taut and suspenseful and so well made and well acted, that it had its hooks in me from beginning to end. I first saw it in German, randomly I caught part of part 2 and was thrilled to see John Simm and it looked really good so I found out what I had glimpsed and I scoured the tv guide and saw that parts 1 and 2 (of 6) were going to be aired at 1am or something the night/morning before parts 3 and 4 in primetime. So I stayed up to watch so I could watch all of it, in order from the beginning, as these things should be. And then parts 5 and 6 the weekend after that, and I changed plans so I'd be home to see it. (No DVRs in Austria!) Soooooo good.

Date: 2010-09-24 08:51 pm (UTC)I also take back what I said about Nina Dobrev not playing Katherine convincingly. Maybe I didn't buy her in period garb, but I'm really liking her modern Katherine. And I love Elena more and more. She is really perceptive, like when Stefan is getting all jealous boyfriend and she points out that Katherine is obviously playing them.

Date: 2010-09-25 12:15 am (UTC)I like Stefan and Elena together. While I think Elena would be good for Damon, I don't see what she would get out of it. (Besides, you know, orgasms.) And that prospect doesn't seem to be winning her over, therefore, I don't wish it for her.
Yay for you being caught up! (my reaction to ep1 (http://imwalde.livejournal.com/68956.html) and ep2 (http://imwalde.livejournal.com/69460.html) for your convenience, I don't know if you skipped over the VD parts or not.) I am also loving Caroline as a vampire, my favorite line tonight was her bunny one.
