we'll see how far self-discipline goes
Sep. 25th, 2005 01:39 pmIt's a yucky overcast day, which makes me want to curl up and read. Which I plan to do, just as soon as I clean up my apartment. Which can happen as soon as I find my self-discipline, which should be lying around here somewhere buried beneath all the piles of stuff. *sigh*
I have about 300 pages left in Les Trois Mousquetaires, and I feel like I'm kind of hitting a wall. Dumas, I love you, but dude, you needed an editor. I'm more than 600 pages in, so I'm not going to give up now, but I just hope the seige of La Rochelle goes quickly, because while I enjoying swashbuckling and heaving bosoms, I do not care to read about military campaigns. Maybe I'll just try to finish the damn book today, and forget about my aparment.
On the plus side, I unexpectedly stumbled across an hour of Erasure on VH1 Classics yesterday. Awesome. "A Little Respect" is my favorite song. EVER.

I was obsessed with Batman: The Animated Series when I was younger. I bet I've seen every episode 10 times. Love the Tim Burton movies, and Batman Begins was excellent, too. - coffee heath bar crunch:
Best. Ice Cream. Ever. Thanks, Ben and Jerry's! - farscape:
One of my favorite tv shows ever. I've watched a lot of sci-fi, and a whole boatload of Star Trek. But it wasn't until Farscape that I realized that so many "rules" of how space shows operated weren't rules at all, just how things work in Star Trek. Farscape is so refreshing and delightful and original and awesome because, among other reasons, it disregards those "rules." And because Claudia Black and Ben Browder (and Gigi Edgley, for that matter) are smoking hot, and have amazing chemistry. And Muppets in space, people, Muppets in space! - germany:
I spent a semester abroad in Germany, and I loved it. Berlin is my favorite city. - jason dohring:
The actor who plays Logan Echolls on Veronica Mars. He is so damn good. He takes his character, who by any reasonable estimate is an asshole, and interjects him with so much charisma and pain and confusion and hurt and HOTNESS, that the audience goes from hating him at the beginning to loving him by the end. In the hands of a lesser actor, this character would have been something completely different, and the show would have been the worse for it. - middlemarch:
Ok, I'm a nerd and a bookworm, so I normally have a rotation of six books going at a time -- a French, a German, a classic, a contemporary, a sci-fi, and a mystery. Not that I'm reading them at the same time, per se, just that I have to cycle through the rotation before I read another of one of those catergories. Otherwise it would be too easy just to read throw away sci-fi or mysteries and never read real books. Anyway, so I needed a classic book for my rotation, and Middlemarch I had bought, like, 3 years earlier for two bucks in a used bookstore and never taken off my shelf. So I figured, what the hell, it will be a good-for-me book. But, much to my surprise and delight, Middlemarch rocked my little world. It's a goddamn masterpiece, just like everyone always said. It's so beautifully written that at times it made me sad, because no one writes sentences like that anymore, and I know I'll never be able to express something in such a way. I would corner people I knew and read them passages from it, because I wanted to spread the joy. Read it! - pirates of the caribbean:
Heh, spring break of senior year,
katietunning and
biggieshorty and I were in Disneyworld. As we walked by the ride, Tiff mentioned that they were making a movie. I was all, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Tiff says, Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom are in it. And I was all, best movie ever, there on opening day! Seriously, Johnny Depp in eyeliner? Orlando Bloom swordfighting? Undead pirates? What's not to love! - sparkly things:
Sparkle! Twinkle! Love love love. - the cure:
Awwww, I love The Cure. I just want to give Robert Smith a big hug. - wonderfalls:
I bought the DVDs, having not been able to catch the show while it was on. I thought it was hilarious, and just finding its feet when it was cancelled. It doesn't break my heart that it's gone, like some cancellations do, but I would have kept watching.
