me wants it, the precioussssssss
OMG, the ring is so beautiful.

I cannot resist blue and sparkly. I find myself absurdly chuffed about the whole engagement. I am not sure why I am charmed, but it makes me happy. (Also, it makes me think of two favorite modern Merlin AUs.)
I spent this Veterans Day and the whole weekend painting my bedroom (December Dawn* and Lazy Sunday*, the overall effect is surpringly purple on my walls with my lighting, but I like it), both bathrooms (Cloudless and Ocean Dream), and two dressers (Down Pour and Sorcerer*). Those colors marked with stars are one whose names influenced my choice; Who would choose black when you could go Sorcerer? When I told as much to the paint dude at Home Depot as he was mixing up my paint, I got a surprised laugh. Otherwise you can go crazy trying to pick the perfect shade, and there comes a point, you just gotta pick, you know? I am pleased with the results but OMG I was so sore yesterday morning. So much moving of furniture and stooping and kneeling and paintrolling and climbing on a stepstool! The dressers were hand-me-down ugly fake woodgrain that I decided to deuglify by painting. They do look better, except when I went to buy new hardware (the old pulls were brass, and not just brass but U-G-L-Y, they ain't got no alibi, they ugly!) I learned to my dismay that the old ones were nonstandard sizes so the holes in the drawer fronts fit...exactly nothing I can buy off the shelf. I do have a drill, but I've never used it on thick wood like this (it's one thing to start a baby hole for a screw in drywall...) and they are my real life actual in use dressers, so I don't want to fuck up by botching the drill holes, so I think I will recruit help (aka Dad).
I think it's the one year anniversary of being in this condo (Nov 1st) but I got a second wind about doing some projects and I am going to ride this until it runs out. Who knows, maybe I will be motivated to get a light for the kitchen? I've been using a desklamp in there since, dunno, spring? At least it's only the kitchen and not a room I use often. Plus, the fridge and the microwave have their own lights! (For those curious, my kitchen is half Blue Jewel half unpainted and the rest of my walls are either Gray Timberwolf* or Brilliant Sea which looks a little more primary and less turquoise on my walls. That leaves the guest room and two walls of the kitchen left to paint one day.)
What I have learned about myself is that I am not a very good painter. I just don't have the skill or patience or steady hand or something, because I've tried being painstaking and paint still gets on the ceiling or what have you, so this time around, I just said fuck it and went for Good Enough. I have really high ceilings in one room, so I figure when the time comes years from now if I am going to sell, I'll have the place professionally done anyhow.

Also, those paint colors are amazingly named and I bet the condo looks awesome.

But the characters are awesome and there is continuity and world building and humor and it's quotable and quite often bugnuts insane, but in a really entertaining way. John and Aeryn's awesomeness, both individually and together, are a large part of the awesomeness, but that's what you hope for for main characters.
Part of its awesomeness is due to how many conventions of a typical sci-fi space show it completely ignores, up-ends, or subverts. "Rules" of the genre set by Star Trek that were modeled by many, many subsequent shows. And I think perhaps this facet of its awesomeness may be lost on you, because I gather you aren't a big sci-fi person? But I think anyone can appreciate its creativity.
And the puppets grow on you, I swear. You like Doctor Who, and if you can roll with those special effects and aliens, you can roll with Farscape's.
Its growth as a show is analagous to Buffy's, because the premise is solid, but a lot of early episodes are a little rough around the edges, perhaps, and the budget was non-existant. But after the first batch of episodes, you see glimmers of what it could be and then it starts getting better and better, and it's not long until it's legitimately awesome.

Truly, if you can handle the cheese and bizarrity (bizarreness? gah, what's the noun form?) amid the awesome in Doctor Who, Farscape should be no trouble at all. And at last you will know what the rest of us were squeeing about!
(I do wish the first batch of episodes was stronger, though; the pilot is pretty strong, but the first batch is uneven. Not enough to turn me off watching, but I had seen 6 or 7 episodes and thought it was ok enough to keep going but still didn't quite understand the fuss, but trust me, keep going! It finds its feet.)
