I know I seem to say this after every episode, but that is because it is true; I am seriously sitting in front of my tv gape-mouthed. :O HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!! I don't even know what to react to first! Hi, Aunt Jenna! RIP, Alaric, although I guess the ending leaves open the possibility that he'll be back as a ghost to Jeremy. I think perhaps that was meant to be reassuring, but it was sort of creepy.

And oooooh, Bonnie, Caroline is going to be so mad at you!! Did it have to be Tyler because he's a hybrid from the bloodline? And what pray tell are Klaus-in-Tyler's plans for Caroline??? If Tyler gets depossessed, would they all die, or could Klaus be transferred?? It was good to see Elijah again, who I had no idea is married to Rachel Leigh Cook in real life.

And I am secretly happy that she chose Stefan, because as hot as she and Damon would be together, she still loves Stefan. But then she did meet Damon first!! (Why was he lying in the road?) And her words were that he was the person who made her feel glad to be alive, so is that still valid?? And I wonder if Stefan is going to hate himself for not saving her? Of course she would have been devastated if he let Matt die. The underwater scenes were lovely and tragic and terrifying. And a little unnecessary: Matt, Rebekah won't die just because you hit her with your truck! But wow, seriously, I did not see that coming. I love this show.

Well, on the Stefan vs. Damon question, I guess for me it came down to what Elena said that I believed all along: she never fell out of love with Stefan. We saw her all season grow closer to Damon and acknowledge the attraction, but a lot of that closeness came when hunting to get Stefan back from Klaus. Stefan was still a major factor. And without being over Stefan, I don't want to see her with Damon, because I think she and Damon deserve a better shot than that. (And she isn't wrong that Damon still has a self-destructive streak that he needs to work on. He slept with Rebekah after she tried to kill Elena, it's perfectly understandable why Elena thinks Damon still needs to learn to show a little self-control.)

But...who knows how much of this will be true now that she will be a vampire? I think you are right that Damon will be the one shepherding her.
