DUDE. I think I just saw a sugar glider out on my balcony!!

DSCN0808

Whatever it was, the cats were transfixed. They wanted to chase/pounce on/eat it SO BADLY.

It is not a squirrel, so please don't tell me that it is. It is much smaller than a squirrel, the bars on my balcony are only 5" apart. Its head and eyes were round and the eyes were really big proportional to the head, which would make sense for a nocturnal animal. I didn't get a picture clearly showing it, but when it climbed down the chair, I think I saw extra skin between its arms and legs? But I didn't see it glide.

One time pet that got loose? Escapee from the local zoo? Considering I live in VA, and the native habitat of a sugar glider is AUSTRALIA, it's very intriguing!

Wow, cool! I don't know anything about exotic pet squirrels, but that looks (from this photo) like it might be a baby? Maybe a baby flying squirrel? See if this looks like it?

They do live in the south. People don't always see them because they are small and nocturnal.

Huh, could be!

Ok, now that I've read the Wikipedia page, it seems very possible. It's a lot more logical than my original theory.

Either way, it's super cute. I can only imagine what your cats thought.
