Oh, Russell Means died. Is it stupid that that made me a little sad because in my head, he's the last of the Mohicans? I mean, I know that's not true on one level, but still. (I think I know the answer to my question: it's a little stupid.) And now reading his obit, (Longtime activist Russell Means dies at 72 after years of fighting for American Indian causes) I see acting was really just a hobby, I had no idea. It's funny, Wounded Knee and all that, it was before my time, but after history class ends (US history ends with WW2, at least at my school), so it's really this mostly fuzzy void in time I know vaguely about from things I've heard my parents say or pop culture. Cuban missile crisis, that I learned about from Thirteen Days, but there has never been a comparable movie made about Wounded Knee and all that that I ever learned.

I haven't been posting about tv, but I've been watching plenty. During the fall tv season, I cast a wide net, give a bunch of shows a chance (so long as they are in time slots during which I have an opening), and see what sticks. I mean to try out Nashville and Chicago Fire, but I haven't gotten around to watching them.

So far I think Revolution, Arrow, and Beauty and the Beast all have promise, and that Elementary is good already. Revolution is much better than the cringefest I thought it would be, and it's all sort of a neat thought experiment: what would it be like? They are moving along the story at a good clip, and so I'm going to stick with it. I do hope they find a way to make Charlie less annoying, though. Arrow is pretty good on the action front, and they've given themselves a pretty solid setup, but I have not fallen in love with it. I'm still waiting for something to make me love it. Maybe when Black Canary shows up? Or, if Colin Salmon grew his hair back. (He is a damn beautiful man, but bald is not my favorite of his looks.)

Beauty and the Beast is sort of the same to me, in that I am waiting for something to click on my fannish engagement. I don't care about her cop work, but they seem to be dedicating a big chunk of the episode time to it. I just want to see her and the beast and learn about Muirfield things. Kristen Kreuk has been pretty charming so far. And man, does she have great hair. That is just top notch hair. Perhaps not the best ever (which is probably Kahlan on Legend of the Seeker) but right up there for sure. And it's a small thing, but I FUCKING LOVE that she doesn't wear high heels to work. She is wearing sensible, yet stylish, shoes and/or boots, as a cop should! None of this running and chasing in stilettos like on Kate Beckett or Annie Walker, which makes me grrrrr every time.

In regards to returning shows, I am watching Castle, Hart of Dixie, Grimm, Nikita, Fringe, Revenge, OUAT, and of course Vampire Diaries. ALARIC!!! GRAMS!! Oh man, that was sad. But it was good to take a moment to be sad, there has been so much loss, but not a lot of time to mourn. This ep did make me laugh at myself, because sometimes I would be all, Matt should just become something, then he wouldn't be so vulnerable, but this ep made very clear why it is so important to still have some human characters around! It really was the least that Matt could do. I am a little worried about Bonnie and where she is headed. I don't think her dark arc is over.

I am going to go eat ice cream. Today was my first day back at work after several days being out with strep throat then a cold, and I am a lot better but still have a cough and feel run down and I talked too much, and now my throat is not happy with me. Sorry, throat! I'll try not to overdo it tomorrow.
