meme for bookworms

Oooh, this is kind of cool.

If you're going to follow it, list twelve characters from books, and only then may you look at the questions.

1) Milady (Dumas, Les trois mousquetaies)
2) D'Artagnan (Dumas, Les trois mousquetaies)
3) Elizabeth Bennett (Austen, Pride and Prejudice)
4) Mr. Darcy (Austen, Pride and Prejudice)
5) Atticus Finch (Lee, To Kill A Mockingbird)
6) Smilla (Hoeg, Smilla's Sense of Snow)
7) Severus Snape (Rowling, Harry Potter series)
8) Azhure (Douglass, Wayfarer Redemption series)
9) Julien Sorel (Stendhal, Le rouge et le noir)
10) Randy Waterhouse (Stephenson, Cryptonomicon)
11) Horatio Hornblower (Forester, Horatio Hornblower series)
12) Mr. Rochester (Brontë, Jane Eyre)

Which would make a better college professor, 6 or 11? What subjects would they teach?

Well, actually, I think Smilla is supposed to have been a professor. Of ice? Arctic climates? Ecology? Science? Something. Horatio could be a professor of sublimating homoerotic desire on the high seas, also getting into trouble. And probably, you know, sailing.

Do you think 4 is hot? How hot?

Ha! Yes, yes, I do. Very fucking hot. And we are legion.

12 sends 8 on a mission. What is it, and does it succeed?

Mr. Rochester sends Azhure to kill his crazy bitch of a wife, and yes, Azhure succeeds because she's a goddess. And she's got awesome immortal wolf hounds that do her bidding.

What is or would be 9's favorite book?

Hee. Something by Balzac, no doubt. Or, The Needy Younger Man With No Goddamn Sense's Obsessive Stalker Handbook.

Would it make more sense for 2 to swear fealty to 6, or the other way around?

Oh, d'Artagnan would totally swear featly to Smilla. Because a) he swears fealty to all kinds of people, because apparently he lives to serve b) Smilla would scare the crap out of him and kick his ass if he ever implied she should swear fealty to him and c) he cannot resist The Pussy, he is weak before it. He could never say no.

For some reason, 5 is looking for a roommate. Should 5 share a studio apartment with 9 or with 10?

Heh. Atticus and Randy Waterhouse would make an interesting team, I think they would get along. And Scout would love Randy. I can't see Atticus and Julien getting along. Atticus would never let Julien sleep with married women in the apartment.

7, 2 and 12 have dinner together. Where do they go, and what do they discuss?

Wow. Snape, Mr. Rochester and d'Artagnan would end up in a dimly lit pub. D'Artagnan would take offense at something Snape said, challenge him to a duel, and then get his ass kicked. Snape and Mr. Rochester would not trust each other at first, but would bond over the smackdown of the little twit, and after enough beers, would end up making out. But, they would never speak of it again, and be nasty to each other from then on.

3 challenges 10 to a duel. What happens?

Mind boggling.
Mind boggling.
Mind boggling.

Randy would be incredibly embarassed and kind of turned on and would not be able to go through with it. Winner by default: Lizzie.

If 1 stole 8's most precious possession, how would 8 get it back?

Duuuuuuuuuuude, that would be awesome to watch. They are both ferocious. But as much as I love Milady, there's the whole Azhure's-a-goddess-and-she's-got-awesome-immortal-wolfhounds-that-do-her-bidding thing. Sorry, Milady. She could apparate to where you are, and just take it from you.

Suggest a title for a story in which 7 and 12 both attain what they most desire.

"How Harry Potter Killed Himself With His Own Stupidity Leaving Everyone Else Blameless And Snape Saved The World From Voldemort Becoming The Hero He Was Always Meant To Be, Accidentally Killing Mr. Rochester's Crazy Wife In The Process, So Jane Marries Him And He's Not Even A Burnt-Up Cripple!"

What kind of plot device would you use if you wanted 4 and 1 to work together?

There would be a big party to which all the rich people in England were invited retoactively 200 years in the past, and then Milady would try to seduce Mr. Darcy, but it wouldn't work, so then she'd move on to Mr. Bingley, and he'd totally fall for it, because he is dumb.

If 7 visited you for the weekend, how would you get along?

Mmmmmm. Snape. I think he'd be annoyed by my fawning over him, and my constant requests for him to speak in his yummy, yummy growl.

If you could command 3 to perform any one task or service for you, what would it be?

To write all of my speeches/sentences, because she's a lot more articulate on the fly than I am.

Does anyone on your friends list write or draw 11?

I don't know what that means. No?

If 2 had to choose sides between 4 and 5, which would it be?

Oh, d'Artagnan would choose Mr. Darcy in a heartbeat. He's trying to climb the social ladder and make something of himself to leave behind his past of poverty, so there's no way Atticus would stand a chance. Mr. Darcy has the social status and money to which d'Artagnan aspires.

What might 10 shout while charging into battle?

Heh. "Daaaaaaaaaataaaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaaaaaaven!"

If you chose a song to represent 8, which song would you choose?

I can't think of anything clever. "Venus on the Mountain Top"?

1, 6 and 12 are having dim sum at a Chinese restaurant. There is only one scallion pancake left, and they all reach for it at the same time. Who gets to eat it?

Oh, Milady, no question. Mr. Rochester would be compliant jelly in her hands, and as formidable as Smilla can be, she's no Milady.

What might be a good pick-up line for 2 to use on 10?

I think my brain just exploded. Um, "wanna see my sword?"

What would 5 most likely be arrested for?

Civil disobedience of some kind. Maybe staging a sit in.

What is 6's secret?

She doesn't actually hate people as much as she seems to.

If 11 and 9 were racing to a destination, who would get there first?

Oh, Horatio, absolutely. He's very smart and would be dedicated to carrying out his assigned task. Julien would get distracted by his own angst.

3 and 7 tell conflicting versions of events. Which is more reliable?

Oh, Elizabeth Bennett, as she doesn't have an Agenda on all things like Snape does.

"1 and 9 reluctantly team up to save the world from the threat posed by 4's sinister secret organization. 11 volunteers to help them, but it is later discovered that 11 is actually a spy for 4. Meanwhile, 4 has kidnapped 12 in an attempt to force their surrender. Following the wise advice of 5, they seek out 3, who gives them what they need to complete their quest." What happens?

Ok, so for me, that means: "Milady and Julien reluctantly team up to save the world from the threat posed by Mr. Darcy's sinister secret organization. Horatio Hornblower volunteers to help them, but it is later discovered that Horatio is actually a spy for Mr. Darcy. Meanwhile, Mr. Darcy has kidnapped Mr. Rochester in an attempt to force their surrender. Following the wise advice of Atticus Finch, they seek out Elizabeth Bennett, who gives them what they need to complete their quest."

See, but I don't think Mr. Darcy would have a sinister secret organization, and certainly not one that Horatio Hornblower, uptight straight arrow that he is, would join. So I think this is all Milady's doing, and she's managed to hoodwink them all because she wants to take down Mr. Darcy because she does not take rejection well. At all. And he snubbed her at the party. Julien, as always, is just a schmuck, and is a stooge to her plotting whom she will sacrifice when convenient. Mr. Darcy probably rescued Mr. Rochester from Milady! If Milady could play on Lizzie's anger at Mr. Darcy, Lizzie would totally help Milady take him down, knowing that she (Lizzie) is his weakness.
