From Entertainment Weekly: The Peeps Man Adam Rifkin on why sugary marshmallows are the next big movie opportunity

I am so there. My dioramas might become famous, guys! :D

The only potential downside is that if the contest becomes more famous, there will sure be more entries, thus more competition! There were already 700+ entries this year, but I bet after the movie, it'll be 4 digits, at least. Better think of a good subject next time!

Ahahahah!

HAHAHAHHAHA, this makes me so happy, I giggled all the way through.

From the Washington Post Style Blog: William Shatner has been live-tweeting TV shows on the CW. We asked him why, and his response is delightful.

BEST. Love it. He asks good questions in that tweet sampling. Really, what are the rules governing the powers of the Tomorrow People? It's not clear to me after watching most of a season. But I am glad he's giving these shows some publicity. Will he do Vampire Diaries, I wonder? He said he was supporting sci-fi, and if he can feel ok applying that term to Supernatural, then how can he say no to TVD? (I haven't watched any of The 100 yet, any good? Looks sort of bleak and dark to me.)

O, CW, I do love you so. May this endeavor bring more viewers to your many delights!

As suspected, what with not being interviewed and it nearly being Easter, I did not win this year's Washington Post Peeps Diorama contest, but the pictures of the winning entries are here for your perusal, if you are curious.

I think the winner is both creative and impressive, so no quibbles there, but I was not equally impressed with all of the semi-finalists. I liked a lot of them, but I also think mine was as good as a number of others, but it's all a matter of taste, I suppose. (And one of veterans storming the barricades during the shutdown -- called it!) Oh well, there's always next year.

I saw the movie again today with a friend who loved the show, but was not a Kickstarter backer. She loved it too. Just as one data point of how the movie is doing, this theater had pretty respectable attendance. Almost no one in the four closest rows down front (but who likes to sit so close?) and then in the stadium rows, about 50% full? Not bad! And, judging from the laugh lines, I think mostly non-diehards. Minimal laughter at the injokes (kickstarter reference, theme song busker, etc), but laughter at the funny moments.

One thing I noticed on this viewing? An extra at the high school reunion is wearing gray and black argyle! He's in the background and I couldn't tell if it was THE argyle sweater shirt or just a nod to it, but either way: hee.

Has anyone else read the shooting script? I like reading the stage directions, and the differences between the script and the movie are interesting to me. spoilers ) I'm sad the Die Hard joke didn't make it in the final cut. I would have laughed!

I love the movie a lot, and I want there to be more, so I wish we knew what the magic number was for profitability where Warner Brothers would make more. I'd be prepared to see it again and do my part to get us to it. Tell us, Warner Brothers, and VM fans will deliver!

All done! Here is my final entry for the Washington Post 2014 Peeps Diorama contest:

I'm very pleased, overall, although once again I've made a diorama that is very hard for me to photograph.

I got entry confirmation from the Washington Post, so now we just wait until Easter to learn how I do!

Glue's not dry (so much glue!) so he can't stand yet, but he is the final character! If you can't tell, he's a giant bunny peep turned upside down.

Homestretch now! Good thing, because entries are due by midnight.

And the whole band and their bus! I'm pleased, overall.

I think she turned out pretty well. Three out of five of the Electric Mayhem complete!

And an update: I made Beaker's head narrower, added some glitz to Rowlf's piano to make it more visible, and gave Scooter a checklist.

Again, the sheer petite size of a Peep chick head makes it hard because of the small surface area to work with, but I certainly think in their setting everyone should know who they are.

A closer look at the balcony.

14 down, at least 4, if not 5 Mupeeps to go!

I saw the Veronica Mars movie last night at its NYC premiere!! I met no one, saw the boys from afar (KB did the red carpet and then skedaddled to do more press (one of the late talk show Jimmy's, I think)), and while I took some pics, they are blurry, boo. They had a little tented red carpet in front of the theater, and a little area to wait by the red carpet for the arrivals. We opted not to wait there. My plus one wasn't feeling it, and I think I would have been too shy anyway (well, compared to the other fangirls) to get a moment with anyone, and I knew professional photographers would document the arrivals just fine.

We checked in, got our tickets, and then waited in line for a few minutes until they were ready to let us into the theater. The invite had said "business professional and up." I was in the fanciest dress I own, and overall, most people seemed to be dressed like me -- a bit like fangirl prom in vibe. A few tuxes, but mostly suits/ties on dudes, and nice dresses on the ladies. There were a few schlubs in jeans, but for once, I was not among them. When we went into the theater, there were free bags of popcorn and 20 oz bottle drinks. Thanks, Loews/Slave Rats/whoever! The theater was playing a mix of songs random enough that I was like, these have to be in the movie. And sure enough, they were!

We had assigned seating, and I was in the first row of the Mezzanine. No idea how they came up with who was assigned where (order of Kickstarter donation? order of RSVPing with details to the premiere?), but it meant that I had great seats to watch the movie, but was far away from where the cast stood when they introduced it (1.5 stories up and half a theater back). Others were close to the cast, but would have had a neck crick from sitting 3 feet from the screen, so not sure which is preferable. blurry pic below )

Sad that Francis Capra didn't come out well -- his face is blocked by his own camera, alas -- because his appearance was the biggest surprise. So much hair!

Only Rob Thomas spoke, aside from the occasional interjection. He said what he's said before at other forums: thanking Warner Brothers for saying yes to the whole endeavor, and thanking us, the fans, for making it possible. And then it was time for the movie (if the cast stayed, I could not see). Non-spoilery reaction: I basically loved it. spoilery reaction ) Judging purely by claps, squees, and laughs, I'd say the audience was pretty satisfied, too. I'm seeing it again on Thursday as a fan event. Hopefully I get to hear some of the dialogue I missed because people were laughing or clapping over it. And then possibly to see it again over the weekend, because dammit, I am determined that this is a success.

eta -- oh! here in a group selfie by Kristen, you can see Francis Capra's hair!

Hmmmm, maybe I should have made the piano another color, because the dark on dark does not show up super well in photographs. In any case, hooray Rowlf, who should have been super easy, but I had to go to eight (EIGHT!!!!!) stores before I found the chocolate Peeps, so it didn't feel easy!

Zoot and Miss Piggy

I wasn't quite satisfied with Zoot or Miss Piggy, so I made some tweaks and think they look better. Zoot looked underdone, so I added some beads to his outfit, for the hippie he is. Miss Piggy, I changed her hair, so now I think it looks better -- like her ears are sticking up out of it.

The Swedish Chef still doesn't look quite right, but I can't think of something else to do. Ideas?

Swedish Chef
Fozzie

Pretty happy with Fozzie. Not quite as satisfied with the Swedish Chef, but what makes the Swedish Chef the Swedish Chef is his speech and chopping, not his look, so that made him a bit hard to nail for me. Contextually, I think it will be pretty clear who he is, though, so it'll do.

Bunsen and Beaker

Couldn't think of a setting for them. Don't think I can pull off creating a lab. Maybe an Erlenmeyer flask?
